About Nieu Bethesda

Nieu Bethesda  was started by a group of people who lived in the area and who wanted a church closer than the one in Graaff-Reinet – in the 1870’s some seven hours ride away  – these days it takes about half an hour.

A bountiful spring on the plateau just above Nieu Bethesda supplies  the village with water and runs through the village’s network of furrows, one of the last working furrow systems still operating daily.

Nieu Bethesda is a real getaway and home to artists, crafters and other creatives seeking a different lifestyle. Its wide untarred roads and abundant trees  and roaming livestock add to its uniqueness.

To do – visit the famous Owl House, or the Brewery for home made beer ,

The Melting Pot for good Coffee and a Pancake, the bookshop, or just go for long walks and savour its individual beauty – NOTE – there are no ATM’s or Petrol Stations in Nieu Bethesda!
